Pixel Bender Flash Dancing Dudes – source
Sunday, December 28th, 2008Well, Happy Christmas all… I still have a bunch of posts to get through but I am enjoying the sun, surf and sand in Oz over the Christmas break and I will have to get to them next week..
In the meantime, here is the ‘Dancing Dudes’ AIR application I demoed at MAX in San Francisco. It stars my fellow worldwide Creative Suite evangelists Jason Levine and Rufus Deuchler. I promised the source files and they are here for you to download.
For the technical minded… the file is a Flash CS4 .fla using the twirl Pixel Bender Filter to make the guys dance. I am using the amplitude of the music to move the center of the filter on the x axis and the y position of the mouse to move it on the y axis. Apart from that there is nothing really tricky about it… except I spent a little bit of time adjusting the settings on the filter to make sure that Jason’s smooth moves reflected his true dancing style. For those of you that have seen Jason on the dance floor I think you will agree I got it pretty close.
Feel free to use it as you will. You can replace the music by replacing the ‘song.mp3′ file. You can replace the images in the dudes.fla file. The music is royalty free and was mixed in Soundbooth CS4 by Jason.
